According to authorities, a mentally ill woman allegedly attacked and killed her 80-year-old mother-in-law at their home in Nagpur, Maharashtra. Punam Anand Shikharwar, 36, a resident of Gudadhe layout, has been detained by the police in connection with the slaying that happened on Saturday, according to PTI.

Punam was given medication for her mental illness and was treated as such. But the accused had stopped taking her medications recently and had arguments with her family, he claimed. The accused abruptly attacked her mother-in-law Taradevi with a sharp object in a fit of rage, slitting her throat. The official claimed that she also repeatedly stabbed the elderly grandmother.

Police were notified by local residents, who then sent the body for a post-mortem, the man claimed. The officer further stated that a case was filed against the accused woman under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code. A man stabbed and hurt a couple on August 21 when they refused to dance during a celebration in a Nagpur village. According to a Hudkeshwar police official, the event happened on Sunday night in the village of Kharsoli.

He claimed that the suspect, Dinesh Subhashrao Patil, 45, beat his neighbors Sukhdeo Uikey, 55, and his wife Rekha, 50, for refusing to dance during a naming ceremony. Uikey refused Patil's invitation to dance, despite the latter's request. The official claimed that when the victim afterwards began dancing at the host's request, the accused became enraged.

He claimed that when the pair was leaving the event, Patil began to stab them with a sharp object after verbally abusing Uikey. The official stated that Uikey was taken to a hospital with stab wounds and that a case has been filed under Indian Penal Code sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means).
