The customs department apprehended two individuals in possession of two kilograms of gold valued at 87 lakh 14 thousand rupees. They had concealed the gold in their luggage, having transformed it into a paste-like substance.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Md. Shahid Nalband (33) from Hubli, Karnataka, and Pirbaba Kalandar Babusa Saudagar (38) from Hangal, Karnataka. Acting on a tip-off regarding gold smuggling on a Qatar Airways flight, the customs department set up a sting operation at Nagpur airport. Upon the arrival of flight No QR-590 at Nagpur airport, customs officials intercepted the two passengers, took them into custody, and conducted a thorough search. In their possession, they discovered 1 kg 697 grams of 24-carat gold, which had been transformed into a paste and encapsulated for concealment in private areas.
