Recently, the cost of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinders in India went up by Rs 25, making them more expensive for consumers. In Delhi, each cylinder now costs Rs 1,795, and in Mumbai, it's Rs 1,749. Kolkata and Chennai residents are paying Rs 1,911 and Rs 1,960.5, respectively.

This price increase follows a previous hike of Rs 14 in Delhi last month, bringing the price to Rs 1,770 before Budget 2024. The companies in charge of this are Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL). They adjust prices on the first day of each month based on international prices.

Notably, these changes affect big gas cylinders used for commercial purposes, not the smaller ones for households, which remain at Rs 903. Last December, commercial gas prices actually decreased by Rs 39.

On another note, the government increased the windfall tax on petroleum crude to Rs 4,600 per metric ton from Rs 3,300 starting March 1. However, the tax on diesel dropped to zero from Rs 1.50 per litre. This decision followed a previous increase in the tax on petroleum crude to Rs 3,300 and the introduction of a Rs 1.50 per litre tax on diesel on February 16.
