Nagpur, India: A large cyber fraud operation run from Indore has been exposed by the Nagpur Cyber Police. Over 200 people across the country were tricked by a fake call centre, including a man from Nagpur who lost more than ₹63 lakh.

The victim, Sunil Dongare, was contacted in March 2024 by two people named Abhishek and Riya. They claimed to be from a trading company and promised big profits through algorithm-based trading. They even shared fake documents like a SEBI registration certificate to gain his trust.

Dongare first invested ₹1 lakh and was later encouraged to make 12 more transactions, totalling ₹12.43 lakh. When he asked to withdraw his earnings, the scammers demanded ₹4.83 lakh more as a supposed CGST fee. Believing their promises, he paid the amount through bank transfer.

In the end, he lost a total of ₹63.17 lakh and never received any returns. The fraudsters stopped responding, and Dongare realised he had been cheated.

The police are now investigating the fake call centre and working to catch those involved. Citizens are advised to be cautious and verify all investment offers before sending money.
