In a recent incident, three robbers pretending to be police officers stole gold ornaments valued at Rs 55,000 from Shankar Pundlik Tadas (56) near Gurudeo Petrol Pump in Kodegaon, Saoner, on Monday.
Shankar, employed with BSNL in Saoner, was en route to Gumgaon Mines for phone line repairs when two men posing as police officers stopped him near Gurudeo Petrol Pump. They informed him about a robbery near the Madhya Pradesh border where gold ornaments were stolen after a knife attack. Another man approached from behind, handing over his ornaments to the fake cops.
Thinking they were real police officers, Shankar gave them his ornaments. The robbers wrapped the items in paper and placed them in Shankar's two-wheeler's dickey. Through distraction, they quietly removed the ornaments. Upon reaching home, Shankar discovered the missing items when he opened the dickey.
Khapa Police, responding to Shankar's complaint, filed a case under IPC Sections 419, 420, and 34 and initiated a search for the impostor cops.
