Newfoundland, Canada: A mysterious black iceberg floating off the coast of Newfoundland has captured global attention, leaving viewers stunned and curious about its origins.

The rare sight was captured by Canadian photographer Ken Pretty, who spotted the dark iceberg near the town of Bonavista. Unlike the usual bright white or bluish icebergs seen in the region, this one appeared almost completely black, creating a dramatic contrast against the sea and sky.

The photograph quickly went viral, sparking intense debate online. While some viewers joked about it being “a piece of outer space” or “a villain’s lair,” others questioned whether pollution or volcanic activity had turned the ice dark.

Experts, however, offered a scientific explanation. Icebergs can appear black when they are made of very old, compact glacial ice that contains little to no air bubbles.
