Nagpur, India: The city of Nagpur has recorded a shocking 38 murders in just the first four months of 2025, exposing a disturbing trend of violent crimes fuelled by emotional turmoil and personal conflicts. According to police records, between January and April, many of these brutal killings were the result of petty arguments or alcohol-fuelled fights — but the most unsettling pattern involves murders linked to romantic relationships and jealousy.
Out of the 38 cases, 11 murders were reportedly committed due to love affairs and suspicions of infidelity, making it the leading motive behind this spate of violence. Police say these emotionally driven crimes often stemmed from relationship disputes, mistrust between partners, and jealousy, with several cases escalating from heated arguments to fatal attacks.
“In many instances, the accused acted in a fit of rage after suspecting their partner of being unfaithful. These were not planned crimes, but spontaneous, emotionally charged reactions,” said a senior police officer involved in the investigations.
The data reveals a troubling portrait of how fragile modern relationships, emotional instability, and unresolved tensions are manifesting in violent outbursts. Many of the incidents involved couples or acquaintances where an argument turned physical, ultimately resulting in murder.
The Hudkeshwar area has emerged as the deadliest zone in the city, registering five murders—the highest among all police station limits. Investigators say most of the killings in this region were either crimes of passion or acts of revenge, often connected to ongoing personal disputes.
The police are now planning increased patrolling in high-risk zones and enhanced intervention strategies aimed at tackling domestic violence and relationship-related tensions before they escalate.
As the city reels from this surge in violence, authorities are urging citizens to seek help in times of emotional distress and encouraging timely conflict resolution to prevent such tragedies.
