A campaign to eliminate duplicate ration cards with the same address has been launched by the state administration. Nagpur, Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar are among the top 6 districts with the largest number of duplicate ration cards, according to the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department's "one home, one ration card" campaign, with Mumbai having a total of 10,798.

Under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) programme, the Central Government offers food grains at reduced prices. However, many beneficiaries have registered for the programme using numerous cards with the same address, causing significant losses to the State Treasury.

Additionally, it was discovered that these families traded or sold the extra food grains in the market. The government launched the push to stop the misuse, and by the first week of June, they had discovered 2,32,766 duplicate ration cards, out of which 1,27,810 had been cancelled. According to the officer, further examination of the remaining cards is underway.

There were reportedly 4,396 duplicate ration cards in Andheri, 2,636 in Parel, 2,133 in Wadala, and 1,633 in Kandivali in Mumbai. More duplicate ration cards will be invalidated, according to an official, as the "one home, one ration card" campaign continues.
