Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has initiated RT-PCR testing for Nagpur residents. Despite one confirmed case of Covid influenza, the NMC is determined to continue testing for both antigens and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), aiming to avoid any unfavourable setbacks.
Across all ten zones, NMC has reopened testing units previously established during the coronavirus pandemic. The 48 test centres at NMC Urban Primary Health Centers are now actively testing residents exhibiting symptoms aligning with the criteria for severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) and influenza-like illness (ILI).
ILI symptoms encompass a persistent fever exceeding 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit and a cold cough. SARI patients include those with viral pneumonia and similar conditions. Health officials have urged residents with these symptoms for over ten days to undergo testing at these facilities. On average, NMC conducts nearly fifty tests daily, with expectations to scale up to 400 to 500 tests, according to a senior official in the NMC health department.
As of December 26, there is only one confirmed positive case in the city. A 60-year-old resident from Dharampeth zone has tested positive for Covid. His sample has been sent for genome sequencing, and he is currently under the monitoring of a physician.
