Nagpur, India: In a major crackdown on rising gang violence, Nagpur Police have launched targeted operations against 28 active gangs operating across the city. The initiative follows a spike in turf wars and brutal crimes, including the recent murder of a café owner in Gokulpeth, allegedly carried out by the Hiranwar gang.
Led by Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal and DCP (Crime) Rahul Maknikar, the city’s crime branch has ramped up surveillance and intelligence gathering. Teams are conducting late-night raids, surprise home visits, and intensified patrolling to locate illegal weapons, narcotics, and detain key suspects.
Zone 2, covering West Nagpur, has emerged as a hotspot with eight active gangs, while East Nagpur’s Zone 4 has seven. Police are also keeping a close watch on former convicts recently released from prison, many of whom are suspected of reigniting old rivalries.
Authorities say the aim of this intensified campaign is to prevent further bloodshed and dismantle organised criminal networks. With public safety as their top priority, police have assured citizens that strong action will continue until the threat of gang warfare is fully neutralised.
