In another unfortunate incident of task-related fraud, a 34-year-old woman in Nagpur has been swindled out of Rs 16 lakh by online fraudsters.
According to the police, the fraud occurred when Rachna Shrikant Gandhewar, a resident of Anant Nagar, Nagpur, received multiple links on her mobile phone on October 6. She clicked on these links and joined a Telegram group where she was introduced to various online tasks and the opportunity to earn money.
Rachna began completing these online tasks and received payments ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 for each task. Attracted by the promise of higher earnings, the fraudster introduced Rachna to a more lucrative position within the online group. After making her initial investments, the perpetrator began demanding additional funds from her. By October 19, Rachna had lost a substantial sum of Rs 16 lakh to the fraudsters.
The Cyber Police registered a case under Sections 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code, along with Section 66 (d) of the Information Technology Act. Further investigations into the matter are ongoing.
