Nagpur, India: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) is planning to take over government-owned land at Zero Mile for redevelopment and beautification. Dr. Anup Kumar, Chairman of Nagpur’s Heritage Conservation Committee, has directed the Collector’s Office to submit a proposal to the Maharashtra government for the land transfer.
During a meeting at the NMC headquarters on Thursday, officials discussed securing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for the project. This follows a proposal made to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Anup Kumar and attended by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, District Magistrate Dr. Vipin Itankar, Chief Engineer Leena Upadhyay, and IOC representatives Atul Gupta and Pradeep Paul.
Dr. Anup Kumar highlighted the importance of making all surrounding government land available for the project, including space for a tourist parking facility on NMC land. While the Public Works Department (PWD) is already working on Zero Mile’s beautification with Maharashtra government funds, IOC’s CSR funds will be used for developing the surrounding areas. Further action will be taken once the government approves the land transfer.
