Nagpur, India: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today virtually inaugurate the newly renovated Itwari Railway Station in Nagpur, now officially renamed Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Itwari Junction. The station is one of 103 across the country being upgraded under the Central Government’s Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
In the South East Central Railway (SECR) Nagpur Division, five stations—Itwari, Daswani, Dongargarh, Chanda Fort, and Amgaon—are included in this redevelopment plan.
The Itwari station has been transformed at a cost of ₹12.39 crore, offering improved facilities while preserving local art and culture. Passengers can now enjoy better entry and exit points, wider approach roads, dedicated parking for two-wheelers, and modernised traffic arrangements.
Inside the station, facilities include upgraded ticket counters, air-conditioned waiting rooms, ramps and toilets for differently-abled persons, a Jan Aushadhi medical shop, and even a rail coach-themed restaurant.
Architectural elements highlight a blend of tradition and modernity. The station displays Gond tribal art, thread paintings, and handloom patterns unique to the Vidarbha region. A glass mosaic artwork of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and bright orange interiors reflect both history and Nagpur’s identity as the "Orange City."
Divisional Railway Manager Dheeraj Kumar Gupta said, “The station now stands as a symbol of modern infrastructure that respects and showcases the culture of Nagpur. This transformation is thanks to the efforts of architects, engineers, and local artists.”
The inauguration will be held virtually, with PM Modi connecting via video conference to mark this important milestone in Indian Railways’ ongoing journey of development and heritage preservation.
