Nagpur, India: A 39-year-old man from Pune lost his life after falling into an under-construction lift pit while visiting Nagpur to attend a relative’s funeral. The incident took place on Monday night under the jurisdiction of Hudkeshwar police station.

The deceased, Rajesh Govindrao Jagtap, was a resident of Gokul Society, Balaji Market, Chikhli in Pune. According to police, Jagtap had come to Nagpur to take part in funeral rituals. After the ceremony on July 1, he was attending a phone call near an under-construction building when he accidentally fell into an open lift pit around 9.30 pm.

He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.

Hudkeshwar police have registered a case of accidental death and are conducting further investigation.
