Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma has officially announced his retirement from Test cricket, marking the end of a memorable journey in the longest format of the game. The 38-year-old confirmed the news through an Instagram Story, expressing gratitude for the support received throughout his career.

“It's been an honour to play Test cricket for India. I’m retiring from the format today but will continue playing ODIs,” wrote Rohit.

Rohit’s Test career spanned 67 matches, during which he scored 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57. He registered 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries and played several key innings after becoming an opener in 2019. He also led India to the World Test Championship final in 2023.

This retirement comes months after Rohit stepped away from T20 internationals post the 2024 T20 World Cup. With his exit, the BCCI is now expected to name a new captain for the Test side ahead of India’s upcoming tour of England. Names like Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, and KL Rahul are being discussed as potential successors
