Nagpur, India: A stray dog was found badly injured with a long iron rod pierced through its head in the Narhari Nagar–Shubhangi Nagar area near Manewada-Besa Road on Wednesday. The shocking sight left residents disturbed and sparked anger across the city.
The dog was seen running in pain with the rod deeply lodged in its head. Locals quickly called Save Speechless, a Nagpur-based animal rescue group. The organisation's founder, Smita Mire, and her team rushed to the spot, safely caught the dog, and took it for urgent medical treatment.
“This was a cruel act. Someone purposely pushed the rod into the dog’s head. It wasn’t an accident,” said Mire. “The rod had gone more than 2 inches deep, near the brain. It was bleeding badly when we began treatment.”
Despite the severe pain, the dog did not bite or attack anyone and allowed the team to help. Vets managed to remove the rod and are now closely monitoring the dog’s recovery.
Save Speechless plans to file a formal police complaint. This is not the first case of animal cruelty in Nagpur. Just a few weeks ago, another dog was badly beaten in Sugat Nagar, leading to serious injuries. That case was also reported to the police.
Animal activists in the city are demanding stronger action against such cruelty and better protection for stray animals. They are urging the authorities to catch the culprit and ensure justice is served.
