Nagpur, India: Dhantoli Police have registered a case against a woman for allegedly defrauding several individuals by falsely promising jobs in the Nagpur Metro and collecting ₹58 lakh from them.
According to police sources, the woman posed as someone with strong connections in the Metro Rail Corporation. She assured aspirants of secure government jobs in the metro project and collected amounts ranging from ₹5 to ₹10 lakh per person. Victims were led to believe that their appointments were guaranteed.
The fraud came to light after multiple victims failed to receive any job confirmation or joining dates and began to suspect foul play. When their repeated attempts to contact the woman were ignored, they approached Dhantoli Police and lodged a complaint.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman used fake documents and email communications to make the job offers appear genuine.
Police have begun tracing the accused and are collecting evidence, including bank transaction details and phone records. Authorities suspect more people may have been duped and are urging others who fell victim to this scam to come forward.
This incident is the latest in a growing number of job fraud cases in the city, especially involving promises of government or public sector employment. Nagpur Police have warned citizens to stay alert and not trust unofficial job offers requiring advance payments.
Investigations are ongoing, and further developments are expected in the coming days.
