180 Underprivileged Children Re-Enrolled in Schools under DLSA's

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) is known for its commendable efforts in resolving pending court cases and providing justice to the needy, with judges and lawyers offering their services. Expanding its scope beyond legal aid, the DLSA has embarked on a noble mission to ensure education for children who have dropped out of school for various reasons. Under the leadership of Principal District Judge and Chairman of DLSA Nagpur, D P Surana, the authority initiated the 'Bring Dropouts Back to School' campaign, spearheaded by Secretary Sachin S Patil.

The campaign successfully facilitated the admission of 180 underprivileged teenagers, including 63 girls and 5 handicapped children, into schools. Among them, 125 had discontinued their education due to financial conditions, while 55 had never enrolled. The dedicated efforts of Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) like Mukund Adewar, Rajratan Wankhede, and Mushahid Khan, along with the support of District Child Protection Coordinator Prasenjit Gaikwad, played a pivotal role in identifying and reaching out to these children.

Beyond enrollment, the DLSA is committed to ensuring that these students receive essential resources such as uniforms, books, and other materials. The PLVs worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the Right to Education Act 2009 among residents, particularly focusing on underprivileged areas and slums. Moreover, they collaborated with teachers to emphasize the importance of admitting underprivileged teenagers and guided how to encourage out-of-school students to rejoin the education system.

Mukund Adewar, one of the PLVs, highlighted the challenges faced by children of migrant parents and the socioeconomic factors contributing to school dropout rates. Through their concerted efforts, these volunteers aim to break the cycle of poverty and empower disadvantaged youth through education. The success of this initiative underscores the dedication and hard work of all involved, under the visionary leadership of D. P. Surana.
