Nagpur, India: India has reported 7,400 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, reflecting a concerning rise in daily infections. The surge comes amid renewed public health efforts to monitor and contain the spread of the virus, especially as cases emerge in multiple states.
According to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, as of 13 June, the country currently has 7,131 active COVID-19 cases. A total of 10,976 patients have recovered, while 78 deaths have been recorded since the beginning of the year.
In Maharashtra, 613 fresh cases have been reported, with 14 recoveries and 21 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours. Since 1 January, the state has reported 1,162 recoveries and 98 deaths. Health officials confirm that 613 cases remain active within the state.
Medical authorities have attributed the increase to enhanced testing and the emergence of fast-spreading, albeit mostly mild, variants. While the majority of infections continue to be categorised as non-severe, the health department has urged citizens to maintain safety protocols such as mask-wearing and regular hand hygiene.
Vaccination remains a key recommendation, particularly for vulnerable groups. Officials continue to monitor the situation closely, calling for public cooperation to prevent any significant strain on the healthcare system.
