Accused of rape, a man from Nagpur leaps into the river and broadcasts his suicide on Facebook

According to authorities, a 38-year-old man took his own life and livestreamed it on Facebook while alleging that he was the victim of rape blackmail. An official reported that Manish, also known as Raj Yadav, a resident of the city's Kalamna neighborhood, committed suicide on Sunday by plunging into the Kanhan river. He had a relationship with a 19-year-old local female, according to the police.
According to the police source, the girl vanished from her house on September 6 and her family said Manish was to blame. On Sunday, Manish broadcast a live video from the side of the river on Facebook in which he said the girl's family had blackmailed another person in Uttar Pradesh before coming after him, threatening to accuse him of rape if he did not pay them Rs 5 lakh.
He claimed that he was terminating his life because the pressure was too much. The girl and her family members have been held by Kalamna police for interrogation, and an investigation is currently in progress, the official said.
