Bodies of Two Teenagers Recovered from Gorewada Lake in Nagpur

Nagpur, India: The body of the second teenager who drowned in Gorewada Lake was recovered on Sunday morning, bringing a tragic end to a search operation that began late Saturday evening.

The two cousins, Aniket Badge and Satish Deshbhattar, both 18 years old and residents of Manvata Nagar, had gone to the lake with three friends for an outing. According to police reports, the two entered the water around 4:30 pm on Saturday, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, and did not resurface.

While one body was recovered later that night, search teams, including the Fire Brigade and Gittikhadan Police, continued the operation through the night. The second body was found on Sunday and later handed over to the family following a post-mortem.

Inspector Kailash Deshmane confirmed that the teens were warned by their friends not to go into the water. The three others—Yash Uike (17), Sahil Chore (21), and a minor—witnessed the tragic drowning but could not save them.

Both Aniket and Satish worked as painters and were known to be close. Their untimely deaths have left the local community in grief.

Authorities are once again urging citizens to exercise caution around water bodies and to strictly avoid swimming in unauthorised areas. Gorewada Lake, though scenic, has seen several drowning cases over the years, prompting calls for stricter safety measures.
