CBI Arrests Impersonator in Nagpur for Extortion Attempt on Railway Official

In a recent development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended an individual in Nagpur, Maharashtra, who had falsely posed as a CBI officer. This imposter stands accused of demanding a bribe amounting to Rs 20 lakh from a senior railway official, and he had already accepted a portion of this illicit sum.
The action taken by the CBI was prompted by the complaint filed by a Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer (Sr DME) working with the Indian Railways. This railway official had been targeted by an individual who falsely claimed to be the personal assistant (PA) of a CBI Deputy Inspector General (DIG) rank officer.
The imposter, acting as the CBI officer's PA, informed the railway official that there were pending complaints against him within the CBI's jurisdiction. To resolve these alleged complaints, the railway official was told that a bribe of Rs 20 lakh was required.
Responding to the complaint filed by the railway official, the CBI took swift action. They set up a carefully planned operation and managed to apprehend the suspect, identified as Sadiq Qureshi. The arrest was carried out while Qureshi was in the process of demanding and accepting a portion of the bribe, totaling one lakh rupees.
Subsequent to the arrest, the CBI conducted a search of Qureshi's premises, which led to the discovery of incriminating documents. Following this operation, Sadiq Qureshi was presented before a CBI court, and the court has granted custody of the suspect to the CBI until November.
