City Rice Trader Swindled of Rs31 Lakh: Accused Place Order, Refuse Payment, and Issue Threats

A rice trader in the city fell victim to a scam, losing Rs 31 lakh, as three individuals from Karnataka, posing as customers, deceitfully placed an order and subsequently refused to make the payment. Lalit Ganesh Rajpute (48), who operates a rice trading business from his shop, received a contact from the accused on February 15.
Raghav Swami, one of the three individuals residing in Gangavati, Bengaluru, expressed interest in purchasing rice and placed an order amounting to Rs30.75 lakh. Upon the delivery of the goods, the accused assured Rajpute that the payment would be made promptly. However, despite the promises, no money was sent.
When Rajput attempted to reach out for the payment, the accused evaded him. Persistent attempts to contact them led to a shocking turn of events, with the accused not only refusing to make the payment but also subjecting Rajput to verbal abuse and threats of physical harm, including the threat of killing him if he continued to demand payment.
Subsequently, Rajput reported the incident to the police, who have initiated a case against the accused and are actively searching for them. This incident echoes a similar case a few months ago, where a supari trader faced deception from fraudsters who initially made regular payments for smaller quantities but later defaulted on a significant order worth crores of rupees.
