CM Fadnavis Arrives in Nagpur; Relaxations Revoked, Curfew Still in Force

Nagpur, India: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis arrived in Nagpur on Friday night, marking his first visit since the violence that erupted on Monday. He will review the situation on Saturday and hold detailed discussions with Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Singal and senior officers to assess security arrangements and the progress of the investigation.
A decision on lifting the curfew is likely to be taken during his review. Currently, a curfew is in place in areas under nine police stations, causing hardship to traders and daily wage workers. With peace gradually returning, there is increasing demand to lift the curfew in all areas except sensitive zones.
Following violence in the Mahal and Hansapuri areas, a curfew was imposed across eleven police stations. On Thursday, the curfew was lifted in Nandanvan and Kapilnagar, and brief relaxations were given in six other areas between 2 pm and 4 pm. However, the relaxations in areas like Sakkardara, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, Shantinagar, Imamwada, and Yashodharanagar were cancelled by night, keeping the curfew intact in nine areas.
With Fadnavis now in the city, everyone is keen to see what steps he will take to restore normalcy. Traders and locals, who have been facing difficulties due to the curfew, are hopeful that the situation will improve and restrictions will be eased soon.
