Contaminated Water Pipeline Puts Over 10,000 at Risk in North Nagpur

Nagpur, India: Over 10,000 residents in North Nagpur are at serious risk of waterborne diseases due to a drinking water pipeline that runs directly through a heavily polluted nullah. The open drain, clogged with garbage and sewage, poses a growing health hazard, especially with the monsoon season fast approaching.

The affected areas include Republican Nagar, Indora Basti, and Tarkeshwar Nagar. Locals in these densely populated communities rely on public taps fed by this compromised pipeline. With mounting complaints of stomach infections and other illnesses—particularly among children—residents fear a potential outbreak.

Former corporator Manoj Sangole has raised the issue multiple times with the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), describing the situation as a “ticking time bomb”. He has urged immediate action to either relocate the pipeline or ensure proper sanitation of the drain.

Despite repeated warnings, the NMC has yet to act decisively. Community members continue to voice their concerns, calling for urgent intervention to avoid a public health crisis.

With the monsoon rains expected to intensify the contamination, citizens are pressing the authorities to address the issue before it leads to a major outbreak.
