COVID-19 Spike: Kerala, Maharashtra Lead as India Logs 2,710 Active Case

Nagpur, India: India has reported a fresh uptick in COVID-19 cases, with the country’s active caseload rising to 2,710. Kerala accounts for the highest number of active cases, followed by Maharashtra and Delhi, according to the Union Health Ministry.
Kerala currently has 1,147 active COVID-19 cases, Maharashtra has 424, and Delhi follows with 294. Other states such as Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka have also recorded increased numbers.
Health authorities have linked the recent spike to emerging Omicron sub-variants, NB.1.8.1 and LF.7, which are under observation. Although most new infections are reported to be mild, common symptoms include sore throat, congestion, fatigue, and mild fever.
Seven COVID-related deaths have been recorded across several states, with most of the deceased suffering from existing health conditions.
In light of the surge, the Union Health Ministry has directed states and union territories to submit a preparedness report by 2 June and reinforce preventive measures. Citizens are advised to remain cautious, especially vulnerable groups, and continue following safety practices like mask-wearing and hygiene protocols.
