Curfew Lifted in Nandanvan and Kapil Nagar, Continues in Other Parts of Nagpur

Nagpur, India: In light of recent tensions and incidents of violence, the Police Commissioner of Nagpur, Dr Ravindra Kumar Singhal, has issued a curfew order under the Indian Civil Security Code 2023, Sections 163(1), (2), and (3), to maintain public order and prevent further disturbances.

Curfew Imposed in Multiple Zones

Considering the seriousness of the situation and in the interest of public safety, a curfew has been imposed in several areas. As per the directive:

  • Curfew Lifted:

    • Curfew in areas under Nandanvan Police Station (Zone 4) and Kapilnagar Police Station (Zone 5) is fully lifted from 2:00 pm on 20 March 2025.
  • Curfew Continues:

    • Curfew will remain in effect until further notice in areas under:
      • Zone 3: Kotwali, Tehsil, Ganeshpeth, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, and Shantinagar police stations.
      • Zone 4: Sakkardara and Imamwada police stations.
      • Zone 5: Yashodharanagar police station.

Traffic Restrictions and Enforcement

The movement of people and vehicles in and around the affected police station areas under Zones 3, 4, and 5 will remain restricted. Police officers deployed in these areas have been given authority to enforce the curfew strictly.

Exemptions from the Order

The following categories are exempted from the curfew:

  • On-duty police officers and government officials.
  • Emergency services, including fire services.
  • Students appearing for examinations and related personnel.

Legal Consequences

Anyone found violating the curfew order will be liable for prosecution under Section 223 of the Indian Judicial Code 2023.

This order, duly signed and authenticated by the Police Commissioner, came into effect on 20 March 2025. Authorities have urged residents to cooperate and avoid unnecessary movement to maintain peace and order in the city.
