Delhi Criminals Arrested for Swindling Woman's Gold Worth Rs 2.10 Lakh

Police from UNIT-03 of the Crime Branch arrested two criminals in Delhi who had fooled an elderly woman into giving them her gold ornaments, valued at Rs 2.10 lakh, in the Dharampeth area of Sitabuldi Police Station last month. The arrested individuals are Sanjay Ramlal Solanki (27), residing in Shiv Vihar Colony, Karala, North-West Delhi, and Govind Ukaram Rathod (49), residing in Raghuvir Nagar, North Delhi.

On January 18, around 6 pm, Damayanti Samsher Bahadur Singh (69) from Giripeth went to Dharampeth to fix a pressure cooker. Near Gayatri Bhojnalaya, Solanki and Rathod approached her, claiming to want to help a poor boy. They engaged her in conversation and, after gaining her trust, handed her a polythene bag, falsely stating that it contained Rs 5 lakh cash. They deceived her into giving away her gold bangles and a gold locket and then disappeared. When Damayanti checked the bag, she discovered a Rs 500 note at the top and the rest were blank papers.

Following the victim's complaint, Sitabuldi Police filed a case under Sections 420, 417, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against the tricksters. UNIT-03 of the Crime Branch initiated a parallel investigation, working with Sitabuldi police, and identified the culprits. With the help of Delhi Cyber Police, they located and apprehended Solanki and Rathod, recovering two gold bangles, a locket, Rs 49,000 in cash, and two cell phones from them. The arrests were conducted by API Madhuri Nerkar, PSI Navnath Deokate, ASI Ishwar Khorde, and others under the supervision of senior Crime Branch officers.
