DRI Confiscates 975 kg Ganja, Worth Rs 1.95 Crore in Nagpur

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) in Nagpur made a significant seizure in an operation, blocking a truck at Borkhedi Toll Plaza on Wardha Road during the early hours of Tuesday. The seizure amounted to 975 kg of 'ganja' (Marijuana), valued at over Rs 1.95 crore. According to a DRI official, the efforts of their officers made this seizure successful.

Upon examination of the truck, 478 packets, totalling 975 kgs, suspected to contain ganja, were found concealed under a consignment of vermicompost bags. Subsequent testing with a drug detection kit confirmed the substance as ganja, with an estimated market value of Rs 1.95 crore.

The DRI official stressed the agency's commitment to maintain vigilance against illicit activities, especially concerning narcotic drugs. The driver of the vehicle was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and remanded to judicial custody.

The official further stated that their focus now lies on conducting a thorough investigation to apprehend the suppliers and receivers involved in the distribution network of the suspected narcotic drug. This operation underscores the broader socio-economic implications of combating drug trafficking beyond mere law enforcement.
