Eichhornia Weed Crisis over Ambazari Lake for Another One Year

The officials responsible for maintaining the Ambazari Lake are failing to do their job, causing the lake to become increasingly polluted and making it dry over time. The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board usually acts fast when industries pollute the water around Nagpur. Still, they're not doing much about the sewage being dumped into Ambazari Lake by the Wadi Municipal Council.

The board says they can't do anything because it's being dealt with in court. For over a year, the lake has been overrun by Eichhornia weeds because sewage is getting in. The Wadi Municipal Council, Nagpur Municipal Corporation, and MIDC are blamed by the board for not taking suitable actions and precautions for it.

Some residents are also adding to the problem by dumping sewage into the lake. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation denies any wrongdoing and says the pollution is coming from the Wadi area. Due to the ongoing legal process, the pollution board hasn't taken action against the Wadi Municipal Council yet.

To attempt to resolve the issue, the Wadi Municipal Council is building a sewage treatment plant to stop sewage from going directly into the lake. Though it'll take another year to complete, for the time being, sewage will keep getting into the lake. Last year, heavy rains caused the lake to overflow, leading to flooding in Nagpur. The Eichhornia weeds in the lake worsened the situation. Despite this, the authorities aren't doing much except for removing the weeds every day.
