Flood Danger in Parvati Nagar as Drain Gets Blocked by Illegal Constructions

Nagpur, India: People living in Parvati Nagar are worried about flooding because a drain (nallah) in their area has been blocked by illegal buildings. The drain, which is meant to carry rainwater, is now too narrow, causing water to overflow during rains.

Residents say that earlier, the nallah was wide enough to handle rainwater, but over the years, people have built over it and blocked its flow. Now, even light rain causes water to collect on roads and enter homes.

“We are scared of what will happen when the monsoon starts,” said one local. “We have told the authorities many times, but nothing has been done.”

The people are asking the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to remove the encroachments and clean the drain before the rainy season begins. They fear that if no action is taken soon, the area will face serious flooding.

Local social workers also said that this is a man-made problem and that the city must act quickly to stop it from getting worse.

With the rainy season just weeks away, residents are waiting for the NMC to step in and solve the issue.
