Flood Rescue Mock Drill Held at Futala Lake to Prepare for Monsoon

Nagpur, India: A flood rescue mock drill was carried out at Futala Lake on Friday morning to test Nagpur's readiness for possible floods during the upcoming monsoon season. The drill, organized by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), began at 8:30 AM and involved various emergency services.

The main goal of the drill was to evaluate how well different agencies can work together during a flood emergency. The drill saw participation from the Nagpur city police, fire and emergency services, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), health department, and home guards.

The fire and emergency services team, led by Chief Fire Officer BP Chandankhede, played a key role. Rescue boats were deployed from fire stations across the city, including Civil Lines, Narendra Nagar, Trimurti Nagar, and several others. Each fire station sent three personnel, one officer, and one boat to the exercise.

The mock drill recreated realistic flood situations to highlight any gaps in communication, logistics, and coordination among the teams. It also served as a practice session for rescue workers ahead of the monsoon season, which is expected to begin next month.

This drill is part of Nagpur's ongoing efforts to improve disaster management and ensure the safety of its citizens in case of heavy rains and flooding.
