From June 2, Nagpur’s Cab Services to Follow Stricter Fare and Safety Rules

Nagpur, Inida:  From 2 June, new regulations under the Maharashtra Aggregator Cabs Policy 2025 will come into effect across Nagpur, aimed at ensuring fair pricing and improved safety standards for app-based taxi services like Ola and Uber.

The updated rules include penalties for both drivers and passengers in the event of cancellations. Drivers who cancel a ride after accepting it will have to pay a penalty of ₹100 or 10% of the fare (whichever is lower) to the passenger. Passengers cancelling without a valid reason will be fined ₹50 or 5% of the fare, which will be paid to the driver.

Fare structures will also see changes. Surge pricing during busy hours will be capped at 1.5 times the base fare, while discounts during less busy periods cannot exceed 25%. Additionally, the minimum chargeable distance will be fixed at 3 kilometres, ensuring drivers receive at least 80% of the total fare.

To enhance passenger safety, the policy mandates real-time GPS tracking, emergency contact features, and verified driver credentials within cab apps. Drivers will also undergo compulsory background checks and training sessions.

The policy further guarantees driver welfare by requiring aggregators to provide a minimum of 80% of the fare to drivers, along with mandatory insurance coverage for both drivers and passengers. There is also encouragement for the use of electric vehicles, supporting Maharashtra’s environmental goals.

Nagpur’s local authorities will supervise the implementation of these rules and assist both drivers and passengers during the transition. Commuters and cab operators alike are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the new guidelines to ensure a smooth adoption.

These reforms mark a significant effort to create a fairer, safer, and more transparent cab service environment for Nagpur’s residents.
