Husband Murders Wife in Nagpur, Goes Missing After Pretending Heart Attack

Nagpur, India: A 37-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her estranged husband in Ekatmata Nagar, Nagpur, in a chilling case that has shocked the city. The accused, who faked a heart attack to avoid suspicion, is now on the run.

The victim, Sheetal Mandpe, was found dead in her bedroom on 22 May. At first, her death was believed to be due to natural causes, especially since she had undergone a heart transplant two years ago. However, a post-mortem report from AIIMS later revealed that she had died from strangulation, with signs of suffocation and physical injuries on her body.

Police have now booked her husband, Johnson Mandpe, a reflexologist by profession, for murder. The couple, married for 15 years and parents to two children, had been living separately within the same home due to ongoing marital issues reportedly linked to Johnson’s alleged extramarital affair.

According to police, on the morning of the incident, Johnson claimed to have injured himself while cutting a tree, but later that day, their nine-year-old son found Sheetal unresponsive. Johnson then pretended to suffer a heart attack and took her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.

Suspicions arose when Sheetal’s family noticed injuries on her body and inconsistencies in Johnson’s version of events. After they approached the police on 24 May, an investigation was launched. Following the post-mortem confirmation of foul play, a murder case was formally registered on 28 May.

Johnson has been missing since Sheetal’s last rites and is currently being sought by police. Authorities are also investigating any prior history of domestic abuse between the couple.
