IMD Says Monsoon to Revive in Vidarbha from June 14 After Intense Heat

Nagpur, India: After nearly two weeks of intense heat and dry weather, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that the southwest monsoon is expected to revive in Vidarbha from today, 14 June.

The region has been facing scorching temperatures since the start of June, with daytime highs crossing 43°C in parts of Nagpur and Bramhapuri. Despite an early monsoon onset in Maharashtra in late May, rainfall activity in Vidarbha came to a sudden halt from 1 June, adding to the discomfort.

Now, IMD forecasts a shift in weather conditions, with the monsoon system strengthening and set to cover Vidarbha a day earlier than its usual arrival date of 15 June. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in the coming days, along with a drop in temperatures and possible thunderstorms.

This change brings hope not only for city residents suffering from the heat but also for farmers preparing for the kharif sowing season. The incoming rains are likely to improve soil moisture and support early agricultural activities.

IMD has also predicted above-normal rainfall across the country for June, raising expectations for a good monsoon season. However, people have been advised to take precautions as the initial phase may include heavy rain and lightning in some areas.

With the monsoon’s return, Vidarbha can look forward to some long-awaited relief from the summer heat.
