Orange Alert for Pune, Nashik, and More as IMD Predicts Severe Weather Till May 23

Nagpur, India:  The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow and orange alerts for several districts in Maharashtra, warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and gusty winds until May 23. The alerts come as part of intensified pre-monsoon activity in the state.

According to IMD, districts including Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar are under a yellow alert, indicating the likelihood of light to moderate rain and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, orange alerts have been issued for parts of Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, Nashik, Jalgaon, and Ahmednagar, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds reaching up to 60 km/h.

The weather department attributed the sudden change to a low-pressure system forming over the east-central Arabian Sea, expected to develop further around May 22. Cyclonic circulation and westerly winds are also contributing to the unstable weather.

Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors during stormy conditions, avoid sheltering under trees, and keep an eye on official updates. Emergency teams are on standby in vulnerable areas to handle any potential disruptions.

The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and will issue further advisories as needed.
