Inauguration of Country's Longest Cable-Stayed Bridge

Ambhora village in Nagpur district celebrated a historic moment as the country's longest cable-stayed bridge opened for traffic, promising new avenues of development and tourism.
Union Minister for Road Transport, Nitin Gadkari, shared his vision for Ambhora, stating that the newly inaugurated Ambhora point would soon become a global tourist destination, fostering development in the backward areas of Nagpur and Bhandara districts.

The cable-stayed bridge stands majestically on five pylons constructed in the Wainganga River, offering scenic backwaters that make Ambhora an ideal tourist spot. The expansive view of water everywhere adds to the charm, attracting visitors to this picturesque destination.
Gadkari emphasized the bridge's role in ushering in a new era of development. The location is poised to transform into a bustling tourist hub featuring water sports activities and resorts. The bridge connects Karhandla Jungle in Umred tehsil and Ambhora point in Kuhi tehsil, forming a two-day tourist circuit.

Ambhora, located 75 kilometers from Nagpur city, is a significant religious and tourist destination in Vidarbha. The decline in tourism after the construction of the Gosikhurd dam will now see a revival, offering tourists a chance to explore scenic backwaters more than 50 feet deep.

The bridge not only enhances connectivity to Bhandara district but also brings economic opportunities for locals. Increased vehicular traffic is expected to boost tourism and provide employment opportunities, particularly for those residing in the eastern parts of Kuhi tehsil and Nagpur district.

To further enhance tourism, a viewing gallery atop the central pylon, standing at 40 meters, has been constructed. This gallery, accessible through lifts or a staircase, provides an expansive view. Gadkari announced plans for a restaurant at the gallery, enhancing the overall tourist experience.

The bridge, completed in December 2022, showcases an engineering marvel with cables imported from Austria. A Pune-based company was awarded a contract worth Rs 143 crore by the State PWD for its construction. The bridge features footpaths on both sides and two lanes, each 7.5 meters wide, accommodating four four-wheelers simultaneously.
