IndiGo Trainee Pilot Alleges Caste-Based Abuse by Seniors at Corporate Office

Nagpur, India: A 35-year-old trainee pilot with IndiGo Airlines has filed a serious complaint alleging casteist abuse by senior officials at the airline's corporate office in Gurgaon. The FIR, lodged with the Gurgaon police, has named three colleagues and invoked sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The pilot, who belongs to a Scheduled Caste community, claimed he was humiliated during a meeting with the senior staff. According to his statement, he was told, “You are not fit to fly an aircraft, go stitch slippers,” and “You are not even worth a watchman.” The comments, he said, left him feeling degraded and targeted because of his caste.
In addition to verbal abuse, the pilot alleged that he was subjected to repeated harassment at work, including an unjustified pay cut and being forced to undergo retraining, which he believes was deliberately imposed as a form of punishment.
The FIR includes charges of intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, criminal intimidation, and caste-based discrimination. Police officials confirmed that a formal investigation is underway, and statements from all involved parties will be recorded.
The incident has triggered concerns about caste-based discrimination in corporate environments, especially in the aviation industry. IndiGo has not yet released an official response to the allegations.
