Karan Kothari Jewellers in Nagpur Falls Victim to Employee Fraud, loses Rs 57.60 lakh

An employee of Karan Kothari Jewellers in Nagpur is accused of tricking the company of Rs 57.60 lakh. The Ambazari Police have initiated legal proceedings against the alleged culprit, Kaushal Rajanikant Mooni (41), who is currently on the run.

The jewellery store, known for its door-to-door sales of refined gold biscuits and coins, issues challans in the name of employees when they visit customers. The modus operandi involves taking the gold and challan to the customer, and if there is interest, returning to the firm to generate the bill—a process that typically spans two weeks.

Between October 18 and 25, Mooni, the accused employee, purportedly took six challans and refined gold biscuits and coins worth Rs 56.60 lakh, ostensibly for customer visits. However, he neither sold the gold nor returned the challans or gold to Karan Kothari Jewellers.

Upon discovery of the fraudulent activity, the manager of Karan Kothari Jewellers, Kaushal Bhagwandas Vyas (50), residing in Hivari Nagar, reported the incident to Ambazari Police. Acting on Vyas's complaint, the police have registered a case under Sections 408, 418, and 420 of the IPC, and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend the accused.
