Kerala Maoist Sympathiser Arrested in Nagpur Over Instagram Post Criticising Operation Sindoor

Nagpur, India: A Kerala-based student leader and alleged Maoist sympathiser, Rejaz M. Sheeba Sydeek, was arrested in Nagpur after posting content critical of 'Operation Sindoor' on Instagram. He was detained along with his girlfriend at a hotel in Marwadi Chowk, following a tip-off received by central intelligence agencies.

Sydeek, who heads the Kerala unit of the Democratic Students Union, reportedly posted a video holding firearms and criticising the recent anti-Maoist operations. Authorities say the post raised serious security concerns, prompting swift action.

During the preliminary investigation, Sydeek was found to have links with urban Maoist groups and was allegedly involved in raising funds, spreading propaganda, and forming ideological cells in universities. He was also planning to launch a publication titled Nazariya, which aimed to rally support for Maoist demands and pressure the government to enter peace talks.

Police sources claim that Sydeek had been in touch with several left-wing extremist networks across the country, including in Delhi, and had previously been on the radar of Kerala’s Anti-Terrorism Squad for pro-Palestinian campaigns.

He has been charged with waging war against the nation and is currently in police custody for further interrogation. Authorities are also probing whether he received support from any local or national outfits during his stay in Nagpur.
