Maharashtra Government Announces Shaktipeeth Expressway, India's Longest Expressway Connecting Nagpur to Goa

The Maharashtra government has revealed plans for the Shaktipeeth Expressway, poised to become the longest expressway in India, linking the cities of Nagpur and Goa. The project was revealed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a recent NITI Aayog meeting, which was headed over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The primary objective of the Shaktipeeth Expressway is to establish seamless connectivity between three Shaktipeethas, two Jyotirlingas, and various pilgrimage centres located across the eastern, western, and southern regions of Maharashtra. This transformative infrastructure endeavour is expected to slash the travel time between Nagpur and Goa by an impressive 10 hours. Spanning an impressive distance of approximately 760 kilometres, it surpasses the length of the Nagpur-Mumbai Super Communication Highway.
It is worth mentioning that the ongoing Samruddhi Mahamarg project has already significantly reduced travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur. With the completion of 600 kilometres so far, the project aims to further expand connectivity in its subsequent phases, including the connection of Igatpuri and Mumbai. The newly announced Shaktipeeth Expressway will traverse through 11 districts, effectively fostering enhanced connectivity and spurring development across the Vidarbha, Marathwada, and Konkan regions.
The ambitious expressway project is expected to bring forth a multitude of benefits. Besides the remarkable reduction in travel time between Nagpur and Goa, it will facilitate smoother and more efficient transportation of goods and people. The enhanced connectivity will undoubtedly fuel economic growth and development in the regions it traverses, providing new avenues for trade, commerce, and tourism.
The Shaktipeeth Expressway holds immense significance from a cultural and religious perspective as well. The connectivity it establishes between the revered Shaktipeethas and Jyotirlingas will make pilgrimage journeys more accessible and convenient for devotees, further strengthening the state's status as a spiritual hub.
