Major Boost for Pune–Miraj Rail Line as Challenging Stretch Gets Doubled

Nagpur, India: In a significant development for railway infrastructure, Central Railway has successfully completed the track doubling of the Shindawane–Ambale section, one of the most difficult parts of the Pune–Miraj railway doubling project.

This stretch, located in a hilly and challenging terrain near Pune, required complex engineering work including extensive earthwork and tunnel excavation. The completion marks an important milestone in the 279-kilometre Pune–Miraj doubling project, which aims to boost railway capacity and efficiency in the region.

With the Shindawane–Ambale section now operational, approximately 66% of the total track length has been doubled. The overall physical progress of the project stands at 86%, according to railway officials. This achievement is expected to ease congestion, reduce delays, and allow for faster movement of both passenger and freight trains.

Earlier, other segments like Pune–Shindawane and Ambale–Wathar had been completed, along with the 7.64 km stretch between Nira and Lonand, which was successfully tested at speeds of up to 117 km/h. The completion of this latest section will further improve the flow of trains along this key route.

Work is still ongoing on the remaining sections, including those near Sangli, Miraj, and Satara. Officials have expressed confidence that the full project will be completed within the current financial year.

Once fully operational, the Pune–Miraj double line will significantly enhance connectivity across western Maharashtra, improving travel time and supporting the growing demand for rail transport in the region.
