Nagpur Customs Prevents Illegal Export of Onions Valued at Rs 49 Lakh

The Customs Department in Nagpur stopped a group of people from illegally sending a large amount of onions out of the country. They caught them at the Nhava Sheva Port in Mumbai. These onions were worth about Rs 49 lakh. The government had banned exporting onions to keep prices down for people in India.
Customs officers got a tip-off that some exporters were trying to sneak onions out. These exporters pretended they were sending tomatoes instead of onions. But when officers checked the containers, they found onions hidden underneath the tomatoes.
After seizing the onions, customs officers searched the places of the people involved in the smuggling. They found out that the exporters were trying to hide the onions by saying they were tomatoes. They even used special containers to hide the smell of the onions.
The exporters did this because onions are expensive in other countries like the UAE. By smuggling them, they could make a lot of money. Investigations are still going on to catch others involved in this illegal activity.
