Nagpur: Man Arrested for Killing Woman in Dabha Over Jealousy
Nagpur, India: A 26-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of a 34-year-old woman, Hemlata Vaidya, in Dabha, Nagpur, after a suspected act of jealousy turned violent.
The accused, Akshay Date, a resident of Hinganghat, allegedly attacked Hemlata with an iron rod at her workplace in Dabha on Tuesday. She was rushed to Mayo Hospital but succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday.
Police investigations revealed that Akshay and Hemlata had been in a relationship for the past three years. Recently, Hemlata had started distancing herself from him, which reportedly led to tension. On the day of the incident, Akshay is believed to have seen her speaking with another man, triggering a fit of rage that led to the fatal assault.
Hemlata, a widow who lost her husband during the COVID-19 pandemic, was working to support her 11-year-old daughter. She lived in Wadi, while Akshay lived nearby and is believed to have been monitoring her movements.
The Gittikhadan police arrested Akshay from Amravati within 24 hours. CCTV footage from the scene of the crime has been collected and is expected to play a key role in the case.
This tragic incident has raised concerns about the dangers of obsessive and possessive behaviour in relationships, with police urging people to take warning signs seriously and report them in time.
