Nagpur Municipal Corporation Acts Swiftly to Clear Shops Under Tekdi Flyover

In a concerted effort over the past three years, authorities have been working towards the demolition of the Tekdi flyover. However, the owners of shops located under the flyover have posed a significant obstacle to the project's progress.

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has taken decisive action based on court verdicts, resulting in the successful clearance of all but 20 shops located under the Tekdi flyover. Out of a total of 175 shops, only these 20 remain unresolved in terms of their transfer to Maha Metro, the organization responsible for the demolition.

Deputy Municipal Commissioner Milind Meshram, who also heads the Tax Department, confirmed that significant progress has been made in the relocation process. Out of the 175 shops, 120 have been vacated and handed over to Maha Metro. Additionally, 35 owners have been allotted new shops on land owned by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) in accordance with the High Court's orders. However, 20 shop owners still present various issues, including some seeking compensation and others requesting shops at an alternate site. The NMC aims to resolve these matters by the following week.

With the majority of shops cleared and the pending issues expected to be resolved soon, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation is set to hand over the Tekdi flyover to Nagpur Metro. The demolition process is scheduled to begin within the next 15 days (about 2 weeks).

The Tekdi flyover has been a significant traffic hurdle in Nagpur, causing confusion for commuters, administration, and traffic police. However, the forthcoming demolition of the flyover and the subsequent handover to Nagpur Metro holds the promise of relief. The authorities remain committed to resolving the remaining issues with the shop owners and aim to commence the clearance process starting from June 19 onwards.
