Nagpur Weather Update: Monsoon Advances, Heavy Rain Expected This Week

Nagpur, India: After weeks of sweltering heat and delayed weather patterns, the southwest monsoon has officially advanced into Vidarbha, bringing much-needed relief to residents. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the region, including Nagpur, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds from June 17 to 21.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Nagpur confirmed that conditions are now favourable for further advancement of the monsoon into parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Gujarat within the next 48 hours. This change is expected to ease the prolonged heatwave and dry spell experienced in the region.

According to the latest forecast, Nagpur will see partly cloudy skies on Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by light to moderate rain starting Thursday. Temperatures are expected to drop slightly, with highs ranging between 31°C and 33°C, and lows hovering around 25°C to 27°C.

An upper air cyclonic circulation that was previously located over Madhya Maharashtra has now moved towards south-central Maharashtra, triggering weather activity across multiple districts. The yellow alert signifies the likelihood of isolated heavy rain and strong winds that could lead to localised disruptions.

Residents are advised to carry umbrellas, drive cautiously due to wet roads, and remain alert to weather updates. The rains, though scattered, are likely to offer relief from the persistent heat that has gripped the region over the past few weeks.

The monsoon’s arrival marks a critical shift in regional climate conditions, and local authorities are expected to remain on standby for any weather-related emergencies.
