Nagpur's Sonegaon Faces Crime Wave: Cops Clueless Amidst House-breaking Spree

Sonegaon in Nagpur is reeling from a wave of house break-ins, leaving the local police baffled. Even before law enforcement could gather any leads on the gangs responsible for three recent burglaries in the Sonegaon Police Station vicinity, involving the theft of cash and gold ornaments valued at Rs 29.07 lakh, two more high-profile incidents occurred on a Sunday morning.

In the latest spree, two residences were targeted, resulting in the looting of cash and gold ornaments with a combined worth of Rs 38.33 lakh. The first strike was at the residence of Amit Anant Shivarkar in Rachna Madhukosh Apartment, Plot No 41, Dupare Layout, Sonegaon. Shivarkar, an Executive Engineer with the Public Works Department in Mumbai, and his family were away.

The burglars, believed to be the same group, forcibly entered the house early on Sunday, making off with Rs 10.04 lakh in cash and various gold items, including two Mangalsutras, eight bangles, four chains, four rings, and a 460-gram gold biscuit, all stored in a bedroom wooden almirah.

Subsequently, the criminals struck at the residence of Rufak Pramod Jamdar at Plot No 65, Jai Badrinath Society, near Meghpurva Apartment in Swavalambi Nagar. Jamdar's house was locked as she spent the night at a friend's house in Besa. The thieves, seizing the opportunity, stole gold ornaments worth Rs 5.28 lakh and Rs 25,000 in cash from an almirah. Upon Jamdar's return on Sunday morning, she discovered the theft and promptly reported it to the police.

The Sonegaon Police Station has now registered separate cases for each housebreaking theft. This disturbing trend follows recent incidents where burglars targeted the residences of Dhaniram Bhimrao Kshirsagar and Pankaj Sureshrao Raverkar, stealing cash, gold, and silver collectively valued at Rs 6.52 lakh and Rs 7.55 lakh, respectively.

Notably, a different gang of thieves had previously targeted the house of businessman Vikas, also known as Bunty Dilip Verma, in Sonegaon, making off with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh. The police remain in the dark regarding the identities of the perpetrators involved in this series of burglaries.
