Newlywed Woman Murders Husband in Sangli with Axe on Vat Purnima

Nagpur, India: In a shocking incident from Kupwad in Sangli district, a 29-year-old woman allegedly murdered her 50-year-old husband with an axe, barely three weeks after their wedding. The crime took place late at night on Tuesday, coinciding with the festival of Vat Purnima, which traditionally celebrates the bond between husband and wife.
The accused, identified as Radhika Lokhande, reportedly killed her husband Anil Lokhande while he was asleep. According to police sources, a heated argument broke out between the couple earlier in the night. After the quarrel, Anil went to bed, unaware that it would be his last.
In a fit of rage, Radhika is said to have struck him on the head with an axe, killing him on the spot. The murder came to light when she contacted a relative and confessed to the act. The local police rushed to the scene and arrested her.
The couple had been married on 23 May this year, making the incident all the more disturbing due to the short time they had been together. The motive behind the crime is still under investigation, with police probing whether there were deeper marital issues or psychological factors involved.
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, particularly as it occurred on a day meant to honour marital harmony. Authorities have registered a case of murder and are continuing their investigation.
