Nagpur, India: To make it safer for people to cross the busy Nagpur–Betul Highway (NH-47), four new foot overbridges (FOBs) have been approved by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
These overbridges will be built at Modern School Square, Panjra Bus Stop, Karemore Square, and Koradi Bus Stop — all areas with heavy traffic and frequent pedestrian accidents.
The highway was built in 2015 and includes service roads, but many people have been risking their lives trying to cross the fast-moving four-lane road. Even after police closed some informal crossings and added fencing, many still crossed dangerously by climbing over barriers.
To solve this problem, NHAI has set aside ₹7.12 crore for the construction of the four overbridges. The project will be handled by Oriental Nagpur Betul Highway Limited and is expected to begin soon.
Once built, the overbridges will help reduce accidents and give pedestrians a much safer way to cross the highway.
