NMC Removes Encroachment from Bishop Cotton School Playground After 7 Years

Nagpur, India: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) took action on March 7, demolishing illegal commercial shops that had encroached upon the playground of Bishop Cotton School near VCA Stadium. This long-pending issue, which had been ongoing since 2017, remained unresolved despite multiple complaints from the school and the Nagpur Diocesan Trust Association.
Frustrated by years of inaction, representatives from the trust and the school approached Vikas Thakre, MLA from West Nagpur and President of the Nagpur City (District) Congress Committee, for assistance. Thakre then escalated the issue to the Municipal Commissioner, which led to the action being taken.
Following this, the NMC’s Dharampeth Zone initiated a demolition drive, clearing the unauthorized structures and restoring the playground for the students. This action provides relief to the school administration, which had been struggling to reclaim the space for its intended use.
